GSM SIM Utility Software

GSM SIM Utility is a free Windows program from SIM-MAX for reading, editing and backing up the contents of GSM SIM cards. To use it, you insert the SIM card into a SIM card reader connected to the computer; the program window itself is titled SIM Editor.

GSM SIM Utility lets you back up SIM card contacts and messages to your PC and write them back to the same or a new card.

Features

The GSM SIM Utility software provides a set of tools for working with the data stored on a SIM card. These include:

• Reading the SIM card – connect to the card reader and load the phonebook and messages stored on the SIM into the program.

• Writing to the SIM card – save edited entries back to the card, or transfer contacts from one SIM card to a new one.

• Two phonebooks – the main window shows the normal phonebook (200 entries by default) side by side with the STK phonebook (50 entries).

• Contact editing – edit, insert, clear, delete, cut, copy, paste and sort entries; double-click an entry to type in a name and phone number.

• Backup files – save the phonebook to a file on the computer, open it later, or export it to a text file.

• Copy, replace or append – when writing data, you can replace the original content of the card or append the new entries after it.

• Messages – back up and edit the SMS messages stored on the SIM card.

• IP code tools – add or split an IP dialing prefix in phone numbers.

• PIN manager – check the PIN1 code state and manage the PIN1 code.

• Ringtones – compose custom ringtones in RTX notation with adjustable tempo and number of cycles.

• Configuration – set the default number of phonebook and message records and the length of the name and telephone fields.

• Languages – the interface is available in English, Traditional Chinese and Simplified Chinese.

GSM SIM Utility is an old freeware tool: version 5.15 dates from 2005 and is no longer developed. It still offers a simple way to back up and edit the contacts and messages of a GSM SIM card, but it depends on a compatible SIM card reader and may not work with every modern card or reader.
