4shared Desktop

4shared Desktop is a file management application for Windows users of the 4shared cloud storage and file sharing service. It gives you access to your 4shared account without opening a browser: after signing in with your 4shared login and password, or creating a new account right from the start window, you manage the files stored online from a desktop window. The program is designed to simplify multiple file uploads and downloads, which are more convenient here than in the web interface of the service. Files are uploaded by dragging them into the window or by picking them with a file selector, and downloaded to your computer with a single click. The application can also download files from a URL: just paste the link and the transfer starts. For uploaded files you can generate download links to share with other people, and you can search 4shared content directly from the program.

The Options dialog is divided into General, Upload, Download and Proxy tabs. On the General tab you can enable automatic login on startup, minimize the program to the system tray, show tray hints when an event occurs and run 4shared Desktop when Windows starts. The Upload tab lets you upload to the current directory or always ask for a destination folder, start uploads immediately or manually, set the number of simultaneous uploads, limit the upload speed, decide whether directories are created on the site, and choose what happens when a file with the same name already exists: rename, overwrite, stop or ask. The Download and Proxy tabs hold the settings for downloads and for connecting through a proxy server. The program works with free and premium 4shared accounts; free accounts get 15 GB of online storage, and the storage limits and download rules of your account apply to the desktop client as well. A 4shared account is required to use the application.
