Canon EOS Webcam Utility

EOS Webcam Utility is software from Canon that turns a compatible Canon camera into a high-quality webcam over a single USB cable. Because the video travels over the USB connection, no HDMI capture card or other extra hardware is required. It works with Windows 10 and 11 and with most video conferencing and streaming apps that accept a standard webcam, where the camera appears as a video source named EOS Webcam Utility. The utility is compatible with more than 40 Canon cameras, from EOS DSLRs such as the 5D Mark III and 6D to EOS R mirrorless models and selected PowerShot cameras, and later updates have added newer EOS R bodies. Setup is easy for most users: install the software, connect the camera by USB, switch it on and select EOS Webcam Utility as the camera in your app. The installation package contains a Setup.exe with a short readme, and the program can be removed through Add or Remove Programs like any other application.

The software unlocks webcam-like capabilities for EOS interchangeable-lens and PowerShot cameras, so video calls and streams get the larger sensor, better optics and natural background blur of a real camera. Canon first released it as a beta in 2020 and has kept updating it since. Current releases come in two tiers: the free version streams video at up to 720p and 30 fps from a single camera, while the paid EOS Webcam Utility Pro subscription ($4.99 per month or $49.99 per year) adds Full HD output at up to 60 fps, up to five cameras, wireless connectivity, more camera control, text overlays and templates.
