Eurdora OSE does not retain the original mbox data structure, which stores all attachments as indiviual files together in one folder. It uses the same modern mbox file used by Apple Mail and others. No software is currently develped/supported that can access old Eudora mail archives directly, without iomport/conversation.

Many Eudora users disliked [9]th direction penelop took. Similarly, reception to Euroda OSE continued to be lukewarm months after the release. The intended updates, to be released in parallel with new Thunderbird releases, have not materialized and continue to lead to frustration and disappointment in the Eudora community.

On June 28,2013, the Mozilla website indicated that Eudora OSEis based on an out-of-date version of Thunderbird and that, to Mozilla's knowledge, Qualcomm has no plans to update or support it. Mozilla recommands currents users consider switching to Thunmderbird.

The total portable nature of Eudora is major benefit. All mailbox files and structures live in one directory with the application itself.

Eudora OSE does not have every feature and behavior of the commercial versions so it was misleading to call it"version 8".
The feature set for the classic version of Eudora was refined over many years of active developemnt(almost two decades' worth).

Eudora (6.0.1) added support for Bayesian filtering of spam with a feature called SpamWatch. Eudora (6.2) added a scam watch feature that flags suspicious links within emails in an attempts to thwart phishing.Eudora(7.0) added ultra-fast search, which finds any emails using single or multiple criterioa in seconds.

I've been using Eudora (Penelope) for a few weeks and so far I'm very pleased with the interface and ease of use, but I find the search functinality a bit lacking - it's not as intuitive as I'd have hoped.

Moreover, it is based on an outdated version of Thunderbird and Qualcomm has no plans to update or support it. Its main feature is that it is a new interpretation and implementation of the classic features based on Mozilla Thunderbird's code.
