Java OpenStreetMap Editor, usually shortened to JOSM, is an extensible desktop editor for the OpenStreetMap project, written in Java and maintained by the JOSM team together with community contributors. It is intended for mappers who want more control than browser-based editors offer, for example when tracing large areas, working with survey tracks or tidying up complex relations.
Gives OpenStreetMap contributors a full desktop editor that also works with locally stored data.
The editor downloads OpenStreetMap data from online sources or opens it from local files, displays GPX tracks and background imagery underneath, and allows nodes, ways, relations and their metadata tags to be edited. Plugins, tagging presets, validation rules and map styles extend it, and the interface is translated into more than 40 languages. The Windows installer ships with its own Java runtime. JOSM is free software under the GPL.
