Midi Player

Midi Player, also known as Soundfont Midi Player, is a free MIDI player, MIDI router and real-time MIDI synthesizer combo by Falcosoft. It is especially useful for Sound Blaster (Live, Audigy, X-Fi) users, who can load SoundFonts automatically and in real time, but it also works with other MIDI output devices and with the BASSMIDI software synthesizer.

Midi Player allows users to play MIDI and karaoke files with SoundFonts, VST instruments and real-time channel control.

Features

• Configurable MIDI Ports: Midi Player lets you choose MIDI input and output ports, so you can play files through a hardware synthesizer, a sound card, a software synth or the BASSMIDI output. MIDI data can also be sent and received over the network.

• Real-Time Channel Control: During playback you can change the program (instrument) and bank on every channel, apply real-time effects, and mute or solo any channel. Tempo and pitch can be changed on the fly, and a scale effect allows transposition.

• Virtual Piano: A virtual piano with octave switching can be used to play notes, and a chord mode is available for both the piano and the MIDI input.

• Synthesizer Setup: The player can send SysEx configuration for GM, GS, XG, GM2, NX and custom synthesizer modes, load SoundFonts and SysEx files from playlists in real time, and use Cakewalk/Sonar instrument definition files.

• File Formats: Besides standard MIDI files, the program plays karaoke files and the XMI, RMI, MDS, MUS and MIZ formats, and it can play MOD, XM, S3M and IT module files through real-time conversion. Embedded SF2 SoundFonts are supported too.

• VST Plugin Support: VST instruments (VSTi) and VST effect and visualization plugins can be loaded, allowing you to use third-party plug-ins to shape the sound.

• Recording: The output can be recorded to WAV or MP3 files using ACM codecs, and MIDI input can be captured and recorded together with SysEx messages.

• Analysis Tools: A spectrum analyzer visualizes the sound, and a MIDI event viewer/debugger shows the MIDI events that are being played.

Midi Player is a free and feature-rich MIDI player for Windows 9x, XP, 7, 8 and 10 that also runs under Wine. It is available as a standard 32-bit build, a 64-bit Unicode build and a Bassmidi + SoundFont edition that comes preconfigured with a compressed SoundFont, and it is distributed under a Creative Commons non-commercial licence. Donations are welcome but optional. The program is still maintained: version 6.6 added a GS/XG LCD display, MIDI 2.0 support and MusicXML compatibility.
