WinToUSB

WinToUSB is a simple program for installing and running Windows operating systems from removable media: USB flash drives, external hard drives or Thunderbolt drives. The program can create not only a bootable flash drive from which you can reinstall Windows, but also a so-called Windows To Go drive - a technology by which Windows can be loaded and run, while maintaining its full functionality. It works much like a Linux live USB, but with a complete Windows installation. In the Professional and Enterprise editions WinToUSB can also clone the version of Windows already installed on your computer (Windows 7 and above) to a Windows To Go drive. This is very convenient if you have to work on several computers and want to keep your personal system settings.

WinToUSB is simple and intuitive. A bootable drive is created in just a few clicks: just choose to install Windows from an ISO, WIM, ESD or VHD image, a DVD or CD with the installer, or create a copy of the current operating system. Choose the flash drive or USB disk where the installation will take place and then the program will do everything by itself. It can also create a Windows installation USB and a bootable WinPE USB drive. The free edition is for home use only; BitLocker encryption, cloning and VHDX support require a paid edition.

Important note: Windows 7 was not originally designed to work as a portable operating system, so there may be problems with drivers on some computers when running Windows 7 in Windows To Go Mode. Windows 8 and later were designed with Windows To Go in mind.
