Adobe Shockwave Player (formerly known as Macromedia Shockwave Player) is a plug-in for all popular browsers that allows you to play streaming multimedia content, such as vector animation, presentations, web applications, 360-degree panoramas, videos, browser games, three-dimensional models, as well as provide various ways of interacting with the user. With a few exceptions, Adobe Flash Player uses the same technology.

Shockwave can also use the Xtras extension, a plugin for Lingo that allows you to add new features, file system management, hardware acceleration and advanced multimedia functions. These extensions support products such as Adobe Director, Adobe Authorware and Adobe Freehand.

Adobe Shockwave Player enables streaming and interaction with a wide range of multimedia content in your browser.

Nowadays, in most cases, there is no need to specifically install this player, as Shockwave technology is gradually being replaced by HTML5 technology. But nevertheless, if the player is not installed in the system, and the visited site uses this technology, the browser will ask you to install it.
