Check Flash

Check Flash is a small utility that allows you to check the health and performance of USB drives ("flash drives"). It tests the sectors of the drive and shows the results on a visual map of the drive. A full test can take a long time on large drives, so be patient after you press the Start button. However, the program can work in the background while you are doing your own business.

Check Flash can also be used to check memory cards and other removable drives. Regardless of the drive type, the software offers three possible methods of accessing the drive: it can use a temporary file, or access the drive as a logical drive or as a physical device. Please note that the last two methods are only available for NT-based systems and that write tests in these modes destroy all data on the drive. You can also select the duration of the test. Check Flash can analyze the drive in a single pass, run the scan an unlimited number of times (until you press the "Stop" button), run a number of cycles set manually and can automatically stop the scan when the first error is detected.

In addition to displaying sector information, the program also measures the read and write speed of the drive. This information becomes available a few seconds after the start of the check. In addition, as soon as Check Flash is launched, it begins to keep a detailed log of the errors found, the time the test starts and ends, as well as basic technical information about the drive. Other tools let you edit partition information, save and restore full images of partitions or the whole disk, save the master boot record and fully erase a drive.

The program is free and portable. This means that no pre-installation is required to run it. Simply unpack the downloaded archive and run the executable file. Command-line switches allow tests to be started automatically, and the last version, 1.17.0, was released in January 2017.
