Everything

Everything is a free program for quick search of files and folders by their names. By default Everything indexes only file and folder names, which provides extremely high search speed. Indexing is fast: a fresh Windows 11 installation with about 250,000 files is indexed in about 5 seconds, and 1,000,000 files take about one minute. The database is constantly updated in the background, reflecting changes made in the file system. To start the search, just start typing the file name in the search field. The search results are displayed immediately. You can use Boolean operators (AND, OR, NOT), wildcards (* and ?) and regular expressions, and filter the results by type, such as audio, compressed files, documents, executables, folders, pictures or video. In the list of found files the program shows the file name, the path to it, its size and the date modified. You can include or exclude drives from the index, enable or disable monitoring of changes in the file system, and exclude certain directories from the search. Instant indexing works with NTFS volumes, while FAT, FAT32 and exFAT drives and network shares can be added as indexed folders. File contents can also be searched with the content: function, which is slower because contents are not indexed. Everything is freeware, runs on Windows XP to Windows 11, and includes ETP/FTP and HTTP servers for searching from other computers. To use another interface language, download the language pack, unzip it to the Everything folder, restart the program, go to the Tools / Options / General menu and select the desired language.
