Discontinued free HTML editor and web design tool by Microsoft, the successor of FrontPage with support for CSS, PHP and ASP.NET.
Microsoft Expression Web is a visual HTML-editor, thanks to which web designers can create standards-based sites with CSS layouts, interactive buttons, drop-down menus and other features. This program has replaced somewhat outdated Microsoft FrontPage. Unlike its predecessor, this tool boasts a wider list of supported programming languages. Among them: HTML5, XHTML, CSS 3, XML and XSLT, PHP, ASP.NET and JavaScript, with IntelliSense in the code editor.
Microsoft Expression Web also supports add-ins, a Snippets panel and SuperPreview for checking pages in different browsers, and it can publish sites over FTP or SFTP. The program includes an SEO Checker that identifies missing headings, titles and meta-tags. Microsoft discontinued the product in December 2012 and made version 4 free; it no longer receives updates and is no longer offered on the Microsoft website, but it still works as a free HTML editor for beginners and advanced web designers.
