MKey (MediaKey) is a free utility that assigns actions to the extra keys of multimedia keyboards and to custom keyboard shortcuts.
Multimedia keyboards, i.e. keyboards with additional function keys are not uncommon nowadays. However, without special software, these additional keys often do nothing. That's what programs like MKey are for. MKey is primarily used to work with additional keys, but it can also be used to register key combinations on a regular keyboard. That is, you can assign keyboard shortcuts using the Ctrl, Shift, Win and Alt keys. Actions include media player, volume and power control, and plugins add mouse and WinLirc remote support. MKey is a worthy substitute for the standard programs that come with keyboards. This freeware is no longer developed.
