ModernFlyouts

An open source, modern, Fluent Design-based replacement for the old Metro-themed flyouts of Windows 10. The built-in volume, brightness and airplane mode flyouts had not been redesigned since Windows 8, and this app fills that gap.

ModernFlyouts is an open-source project that has its roots in the AudioFlyout app by ADeltaX. As mentioned, it swaps out your PC's standard flyout for one that looks more contemporary. It makes the flyout feel like a natural part of Windows 10 and Windows 11 because of its execution of Fluent Design and rounded corners. Additionally, it is highly configurable. Each module can be turned off, and its position can be altered. Even the background opacity and the stacking direction of the flyout content are adjustable. Additionally, the program offers light and dark themes that can also follow the system setting.

The flyouts' timeout may also be changed in the software, which is a good way to make it less intrusive. The media controls in the volume flyout, based on the Global System Media Transport Controls (GSMTC), can be turned on or off with a single switch. Media controls like shuffle, repeat, and stop are also shown when the player supports them. By using this, you may manage the media that is being played without opening the program that controls it.

The application is really simple to use. When it's running, you can customize it from the system tray. When this program is operating in the background, the built-in flyouts are temporarily hidden. You can always end the process and return to the usual UI, so don't be concerned. The program requires Windows 10 version 1809 or later or Windows 11; old releases up to version 0.3 also ran on Windows 8 and earlier Windows 10 builds. It is distributed through the Microsoft Store, winget, Chocolatey and GitHub under the MIT license. The GitHub repository was archived in November 2024, so the project is no longer developed. Overall, ModernFlyouts is a tool that you can use if you are not happy with the appearance of the default one. It offers a decent selection of customizations that you can apply for it to fit the look of the latest Windows OS. Moreover, it comes with a few innovations that the built-in lacks, including the ability to move it around your screen and additional media controls.
