What is Symantec Ghost Solution Suite?

Symantec Ghost Solution Suite is an imaging, deployment, and system management solution designed to help organizations efficiently manage their IT assets. Now developed by Broadcom, the suite provides IT professionals with the tools to deploy, update, and manage Windows and Linux desktops, laptops, and servers. It combines the Deployment Solution 6.9 console core with a Web Console, the Ghost imaging tools, a Boot Disk Creator and the GhostCast Server.

Symantec Ghost Solution Suite allows for quick and easy deployment of multiple devices simultaneously.

Features:

• Automated Deployment: Symantec Ghost Solution Suite enables organizations to deploy operating system and application images to endpoints, including bare-metal computers booted over PXE for zero-touch installs.

• System Migration: Symantec Ghost Solution Suite supports migration to newer operating systems, and PC Transplant templates capture a computer's personality, such as user profiles, data, and settings, to restore it on another system.

• Software Delivery: The console can run jobs that install software, apply configuration settings and execute scripts or commands on managed computers.

• Hardware-Independent Imaging: DeployAnywhere updates the HAL, network drivers and storage drivers, so one image can be deployed to different hardware models.

• Centralized Management: Symantec Ghost Solution Suite provides centralized management capabilities, allowing administrators to easily monitor and manage endpoints from a single, centralized console.

• Multicast Distribution: The GhostCast Server sends one image to many computers at the same time, which reduces network load during large rollouts.

• Preboot Environments: Imaging tasks run in WinPE or LinuxPE preboot environments, which are prepared with the Boot Disk Creator and delivered through PXE or iPXE.

• Easy Administration: The Web Console includes wizards for common tasks such as image deployment and Windows migration, so less experienced technicians can use it.

• Licensing and Updates: Ghost Solution Suite is a commercial product sold as subscription licenses, and Broadcom still releases updates, such as version 3.3.13 in 2026.

• Restore to Known-Good State: Saved disk images can be used to return a computer to a known-good configuration when a rebuild is required, instead of reinstalling the operating system, drivers and applications by hand. Image files can also be browsed and edited with Ghost Explorer.
