Trend Micro HouseCall is a free malware scanner that runs on demand rather than staying in the background. It is meant as a second opinion next to an installed security product, or as a quick check of a computer that behaves suspiciously. The program downloads the latest detection patterns when it starts, so every scan uses current information.

Users choose between a quick scan of the most common infection points and a full or custom scan of selected drives and folders. Detected threats such as viruses, spyware, rootkits and other malware are listed with their locations and can be fixed from the results screen. HouseCall does not provide real-time protection, so it complements rather than replaces an antivirus.
