WebM for Premiere
WebM for Premiere is a free plug-in by Brendan Bolles of fnord software that adds support for Google's open WebM video format to Adobe Premiere Pro and Adobe Media Encoder. It is not a video editor itself: once it is installed, these Adobe programs can import WebM files and export projects as WebM movies, a royalty-free format widely used for video on the web. Most modern web browsers can play WebM files, so the exported videos can be embedded in web pages with the HTML5 video element without extra plug-ins.
Export Premiere projects directly to the open WebM format with VP8, VP9 or AV1 video and Opus or Vorbis audio.
Features:
• Export to WebM: WebM appears as an additional format in the export settings of Premiere Pro and Media Encoder.
• Import of WebM files: existing WebM movies can be brought into Premiere projects and edited like other footage.
• VP8 and VP9 video: both codecs are available; VP9 gives better quality at the same bitrate but encodes more slowly.
• AV1 video: version 1.5.0 of the plug-in added full support for the newer AV1 codec.
• Opus and Vorbis audio: Opus is limited to 48 kHz, while Vorbis also accepts higher sample rates such as 96 kHz.
• Matroska container: video and audio are stored in the Matroska-based WebM container.
• Bitrate and quality control: exports can be tuned for a target bitrate or for a quality level.
• 2-pass encoding: available for better results and can be turned off for faster exports.
• Multithreading: the encoder can use several processor cores to speed up exports.
• Custom encoder arguments: advanced users can pass extra encoder parameters, for example to trade quality for speed.
• Alpha channel: the plug-in can write video with an alpha channel, an unofficial WebM feature that most players support.
• Mac and Windows: installers are provided for both platforms on the developer's website.
• Open source: the source code is published on GitLab under a BSD licence.
• Documentation: a user manual on the developer's website describes installation and the export settings.
• Related plug-ins: fnord software also offers free plug-ins for Ogg Vorbis, Ogg Opus, FLAC and ALAC audio in Premiere and Media Encoder.
