Zotero is a free, open-source citation collector and reference manager. The program can collect everything, be it a favorite article from a magazine, a new story in a newspaper or information in a book. The functionality of the program allows you to save citations, PDF documents, whole web pages, some other files and even links to the material of interest. The information is captured automatically. Your personal library is organized with collections, tags and saved searches, and a built-in PDF reader lets you annotate documents. Zotero can format bibliographies in more than 9,000 citation styles.
During installation, the program adds plugins for MS Word and LibreOffice (earlier versions also supported OpenOffice.org), and Google Docs is supported too. For Firefox, Chrome, Edge and Safari there is the Zotero Connector extension, which saves sources from the browser with one click. Optional sync with 300 MB of free storage and shared group libraries extend the functionality of the application.
Zotero simplifies reference management by automatically capturing and organizing citations, PDF documents, webpages and other materials for your personal bibliography.
