DiskCryptor for Microsoft allows for secure encryption so that elaborate and large amounts of data can be converted into a code. This software allows the protection of sensitive information so that thieves cannot access private files. Files can be protected with a user-generated password, a key file, or both a password and a key file. It is advantageous because multiple partitions can be encrypted at one time. The ability to support external storage devices means that USB drives, CDs, and DVDs can all be encrypted.
DiskCryptor was originally meant to replace commercial encryption software programs like DriveCrypt Plus Pack and TrueCrypt. However, it is a superior alternative because TrueCrypt was discontinued. A disadvantage of the program is that it is only available in English, and it has not been updated since 2014. However, a brand new Beta version has come out with updates that show promise for the future of the program. The interface is very user-friendly and readable, allowing the user to choose the keyboard layout and noting the strength of the user's password.
The encryption of the entire PC and the encryption of multiple partitions at once has been said to take a very long time, so it is important to avoid having other programs running at the same time in order to improve the speed of the program. The program also requires quite a few re-boots but is very functional and simple to use. The drives can always be easily decrypted at any moment. The encryption of personal data can allow for the protection against crimes like identity theft.
