ISO2USB is a small portable utility made by the Hiren's BootCD PE team.
Hiren's BootCD PE (Preinstallation Environment) is a versatile, all-in-one bootable CD/USB media solution for PC maintenance and recovery. It is a restored edition of Hiren's BootCD based on Windows PE (the current release uses Windows 11 PE x64), maintained by fans of the original project, and it includes a large collection of free tools for data recovery, partitioning, backup, diagnostics and password reset.
To put Hiren's BootCD PE on a USB flash drive, the team developed the ISO2USB tool, which formats and re-partitions the drive and copies the ISO content onto it, so the drive can boot, including on UEFI systems. Although other tools with names like ISO2USB exist, this one is made specifically for the Hiren's BootCD PE image. It is useful when a computer has no optical drive or when you need a portable emergency repair disk.
It prepares a bootable Hiren's BootCD PE USB flash drive in a few clicks, with optional formatting and support for UEFI booting.
Features of ISO2USB:
- Formats and re-partitions the selected USB flash drive
- Copies the Hiren's BootCD PE ISO content to the drive
- Prepared drives support UEFI booting
- Option to copy the ISO content without formatting the drive
- Lists only USB flash drives in the USB Device list
- Refresh button to rescan connected USB drives
- Automatically selects an ISO file located in the same folder
- Drag and drop of the ISO file onto the program window
- Manual ISO file selection with a browse button
- Custom label for the new drive
- Portable, no installation required
- Small download of about 1.5 MB
- Free for both commercial and non-commercial use
- Runs on Windows 7 and later with administrator rights
ISO2USB is a convenient tool for quickly creating a bootable Hiren's BootCD PE drive, but it is no longer offered on the official website: the Hiren's BootCD PE team now recommends preparing USB drives with Rufus. Formatting erases all data and partitions on the USB drive, so back up its files first.
