Parted Magic

Parted Magic is a Linux-based operating system that is able to run completely off of a CD or USB that manages your hard disk performance optimization, storage, and backup files.

Parted Magic is a multifaceted operating system that allows users to restore data, clone all or parts of the hard disk, clean up memory, maximize storage space, benchmark hard disk performance and increase performance. The key feature is that it is all done independently of the hard disk and can be utilized even when the system is non-operational, making it a fail-safe for when a system crashes. In the eventuality of a crash, Parted Magic is able to restore cloned data needed to gain functionality again. This includes attempting to restore lost partitions within a hard disk. 

Parted Magic can perform a complete cloning of all or parts of your hard disk to serve as a seamless backup for data restoration.

Additionally, Parted Magic can perform benchmarking by performing a number of trials to identify any key areas that need immediate cleaning to help prevent any future crashes and optimize the performance of the hard disk. Parted Magic can perform the necessary cleaning and provide optimization of memory, including storing externally and shrinking hard disk partitions. If required, Parted Magic can also perform a full overwrite of the hard disk to completely erase any stored data. When tested after a Parted Magic overwrite, all cells are marked as empty.
