PopSQL is a collaborative SQL editor designed to give data teams a shared home for their queries. With PopSQL, analysts, engineers and other team members can connect to their databases, write and run SQL queries in a modern editor, share the queries and results with colleagues and turn them into charts and dashboards. It is available as a desktop app for Windows, macOS and Linux and in a web browser.

PopSQL offers a set of features that help teams query, share and explain their data.

• Query Editor - PopSQL includes a SQL editor with syntax highlighting, autocomplete, a linter, a minimap option and many keyboard shortcuts. Results can appear on the right or at the bottom of the window, and the desktop app can notify you when a long query completes.

• Connectivity - PopSQL connects to PostgreSQL, MySQL, SQL Server, Snowflake, BigQuery, Amazon Redshift, Amazon Athena, Azure Synapse, Presto, Trino, ClickHouse and TigerData. Connections can be shared with the team with access controls, and a Bridge Connector helps reach databases in private networks.

• Shared Queries - Queries are stored in team and personal folders, so colleagues can find, reuse and review each other's work. A search function and a data catalog with a schema browser make it easy to locate tables and columns.

• Data Visualization - PopSQL can turn query results into charts and combine them into lightweight dashboards. Results can also be downloaded as CSV files for further work in a spreadsheet, for example in a pivot table.

• Collaboration - Several people can work on the same query in real time, leave inline comments and share links to queries and results. Version history keeps track of changes and makes it possible to restore an earlier version.

• Query Variables and Notebooks - Variables let less technical users change filters and re-run a query without editing the SQL, and notebooks combine queries, results and text in one document.

• Integrations - PopSQL can share insights in Slack and supports dbt Core, so dbt models can be written and previewed from the editor.

• Schedules - Queries and dashboards can be refreshed on a schedule, so the team always sees recent data without running the queries by hand.

PopSQL is a convenient SQL editor for teams that want to write, run and share queries in one place. A free plan is available, and paid plans add more team features. The product was acquired by Timescale (now TigerData) in April 2024 and has been in limited support mode since September 2025: it receives no new features, only urgent fixes and security patches. A shutdown planned for September 2026 has been postponed, and the company promises at least 90 days' notice before any future retirement.
