Terragen is an application for generating photorealistic 3D landscapes. With the help of this program you can create whole worlds with your rivers and lakes, weather conditions, sun, moon, stars, clouds, etc. Terragen landscapes can be used to place grass, trees and any 3D objects in OBJ format. Terragen is focused on the film industry - to understand how serious the functionality of this program is, it is enough to remember that the scenes created with the help of Terragen were used in the films "Throne: Heritage", "Forbidden Reception" and in the animated logo dedicated to the 100th anniversary of Paramount. The specialists who created Terragen have spent many years developing methods for generating photorealistic lighting, textures of the Earth's surface, the sky and other highly detailed environmental objects.

The micro-polygonal renderer included in the program is optimized for large landscapes and allows to calculate scenes of any scale - from a small garden of stones to the whole planet. The program allows to place millions of plants in the created worlds, which make up billions of virtual polygons, supports georeferencing and use of GeoTIFF files, allows to use almost unlimited fractal detail of scenes and objects, can use displacement maps and import geometry. You can also use 3D masks and painting, create 3D and pseudo 3D clouds, use global lighting and animate virtually any scene parameter.

Terragen allows users to create photorealistic 3D landscapes with detailed environmental objects and adjustable weather conditions.

- generation of 3D landscapes - from real to fantastic;

- full control of the stage;

- Animation of almost any parameters of the scene;

- import geometry created in other 3D editors.

PROS
Offers high level of realism in landscape and environment renderings.
User-friendly interface for beginners and professionals.
Provides detailed control over all aspects of terrain creation.

CONS
High learning curve for beginners can be intimidating.
Rendering speed is slow, consuming much time.
Lacks some advanced modelling and animation features.

Terragen can be used to create so many beautiful 3d landscapes and properties and i have had fun doing so. There are so many details, items, and things you can manipulate to make anything that you can dream of and create

You'll struggle to find a faster way to generate realistic landscapes thanks to a slew of new features that make it faster than before. Additionally, it appears that the Terragen team improved its primarily procedural shader defaults in an effort to provide new users with a more forgiving learning curve. These include new shaders for functions like the recently introduced, incredibly effective multi-scattering capability in clouds as well as upgrades to the current terrain shaders.Terragen 4 is more dynamic, efficient, and simple to use. Terragen 4 is more responsive, dynamic, and user-friendly. Your use of Terragen will be revolutionized by its new Ray-Traced Preview. It provides immediate feedback on your lighting, shaders, and objects. This makes it quicker and simpler to adjust scenes. The ozone's ability to absorb light is now accurately simulated by the atmospheric model. Scenes with objects are rendered twice as quickly in Terragen 4 than in Terragen 3. It can sometimes render scenes with objects twice as quickly. A further degree of picture realism is added by using high-quality, context-aware lens effects like bloom and starbursts. The properties of your light sources affect every effect.

Terragen is a great software to create realistic 3D landscapes. It is easy to start with, but it provides a lot of features and tools to explore. I have been using the software for the past few weeks, and it is really simple to understand the workflow. The rendering of the terrains is really impressive, and I have been able to create some beautiful landscapes. The best part of the software is that you can customize and control the environment to your own liking. There are so many possibilities that you can create. I also like the fact that it is not too expensive, compared to other software.

Terragen is a great software for creating detailed 3D landscapes. It offers a lot of customization options and is easy to use. Rendering times can be quite long, especially for complex scenes, but the results are worth the wait. It has a range of features to help with different elements of your scene, like terrains and clouds.

Here is an app that allows you to generate photorealistic 3D landscapes. Create entire worlds with rivers, lakes, weather conditions, and much more. The landscapes are a perfect backdrop to add grass, trees, and other objects in 3D OBJ format. Used notably in the film industry, its range of features is impressive: scenes from movies like "Tron: Legacy" have been created with this technology. The designers have spent years developing methods to generate photorealistic lighting, textures of the Earth's surface, the sky, and other highly detailed environmental objects.
