TrueNAS CORE is an open-source storage operating system for people and teams that need to keep files on a shared network. It can run on a dedicated computer or in a virtual machine, providing a central place to organize storage and make it available to other devices. Administrators can use it for file shares and storage for virtual machines.

It brings disk management and network sharing together in one browser-controlled storage system.

A browser-based control panel handles storage pools, accounts, and network shares. OpenZFS supports checksums, compression, snapshots, and disk redundancy through RAID-Z configurations. Replication can transfer data between systems, while iSCSI and NFS provide additional ways to present storage. Optional plugins add services beyond basic sharing. Development now focuses on upkeep rather than adding functions.
