VCV Rack

VCV Rack is a powerful and flexible virtual Eurorack modular synthesizer. It allows users to create their own virtual modular synthesizers, which can be used to create unique sounds and musical compositions. VCV Rack Free is open-source software that is constantly growing and evolving, while the paid Rack Pro edition also runs as a plugin inside a DAW.

- Modules: VCV Rack includes more than 30 built-in modules for sound synthesis, signal routing and modulation, and the VCV Library offers thousands more free and commercial modules. Modules are organized into categories, including oscillators, filters, sequencers, mixers, and many more. The library of modules is constantly growing, and developers can create and share their own modules.

VCV Rack allows users to create modular synthesizers and effects racks with virtual modules.

- Cables: VCV Rack uses virtual patch cables for routing and patching, just like hardware modular systems. Cables can be stacked on outputs and used to connect modules and create complex sounds and musical patterns.

- Sequencer: the built-in SEQ 3 module and many sequencers from the library can be used for creating musical compositions. They can be used to create melodies, basslines and drum patterns.

- Modulation: VCV Rack includes modulation sources such as envelopes, LFOs and random voltage generators. Modulators can be used to create complex patterns and sounds.

- Effects: the built-in modules include a delay, and free plugins from the VCV Library add reverb, distortion, chorus and other effects. Effects can be used to add character and texture to sounds.

- MIDI: VCV Rack includes MIDI input and output modules, allowing users to integrate their hardware controllers and synthesizers with the software.

- Plugins: third-party plugins for sound design and processing are added from the online VCV Library after logging in with a free VCV account. These can be used to add more features and capabilities to the software.

- Patches: projects are saved as patch files that can be reopened, shared with other users or saved as the default template for easy access.

- Visualization: the Scope module displays the waveforms of signals, and the view can be zoomed, with adjustable cable opacity and tension, so you can follow the signal flow in your projects.

- Cross-Platform: VCV Rack is available for Windows, macOS and Linux.

- Audio and MIDI Output: the Audio module sends sound to any audio device, and the free VCV Recorder module records patches to audio or video files, allowing users to record and share their projects.
