ACID Pro 9

ACID Pro 9 is a digital audio workstation (DAW) for loop-based music production, released by MAGIX in May 2019. The ACID line started at Sonic Foundry in 1998 and defined loop-based music production. At its core are ACIDized loops: audio files that carry pitch, length and transient data, so they follow the tempo and key of a project automatically and can be edited in real time and mixed together into complete pieces of music. Version 9 comes with a large loop library covering genres such as hip hop, house, grime and trap, together with dozens of virtual instruments and effects, including Analog Synths 2 and Lead Synth. A MIDI keyboard can be used to play the instruments and record MIDI tracks, and the new MIDI Playable Chopper splits a file into beats and samples so they can be played like a classic MPC-style sampler. Loops can be auditioned, swapped or deleted in seconds, which makes it easy to experiment with different sounds and instruments. Additional ACID loop packs are available separately if the included library is not enough.

The ACID Pro 9 interface lets you adjust and move around all of the panels so that the layout fits your editing needs. The multitrack timeline records audio at up to 24-bit/192 kHz, and a 64-bit audio engine handles complex projects. Arrange tools such as track folders and cluster editing let you drag, pitch-shift, cut, copy and paste whole sections of an arrangement. The Beatmapper detects the tempo and time signature of external audio files, including complete songs, for remixing, while the Chopper slices audio into new rhythmic variations, fills and stutters.

The mixing console offers flexible routing, bus-to-bus submixes, external effects, surround panning and support for control surfaces such as Mackie Control and Frontier TranzPort. A 32-bit VST bridge keeps older plug-ins usable, and loudness metering tools help with mastering. ACID Pro 9 is commercial software with a free trial, and the installer also downloads Celemony Melodyne as an optional component. Newer versions have since replaced ACID Pro 9, and in March 2026 the ACID Pro product line was acquired by Boris FX, which continues its development.

It lets musicians build songs quickly from tempo- and key-matched ACIDized loops, MIDI instruments and multitrack recordings.
