CamStudio

CamStudio is a small and quite convenient program for creating video recordings of any activity on the computer screen, whether it be programs, videos or user actions. It is perfect for creating video lessons, reviews and program presentations. The classic CamStudio 2.x records AVI video that can be turned into SWF flash animation, and version 2.7.2 added MP4 container support.

The program has a simple and easy-to-use interface. The main control is performed by three buttons on the toolbar - start recording, pause and stop recording. When you click on the last one, the program will offer you to choose the place of saving the finished video.

CamStudio has several additional options that allow you to configure in detail how the recording is made and what the resulting video will look like. Also, if necessary, the program can record sound from a microphone or from the speakers, which can be useful if you want to add audio comments. Recording can be performed within a region that you mark with the mouse, within a fixed region, within the active window or on the full screen (FullScreen mode). It is possible to enable automatic panning, in which case the recording area follows the cursor. Another useful function of the program is to place screen and video annotations, text labels, pictures and even a webcam picture in the recording.

CamStudio's main benefit is its ability to easily record and save high-quality video and audio of computer screen activity for educational or presentation purposes.

The program has a built-in AVI to SWF converter, CamStudio SWF Producer. CamStudio is free, and version 2 is open source under the GNU General Public License. The last 2.x release, 2.7.4, is a 32-bit program for Windows 7, 8 and 10. The new CamStudio 3 is a rewritten edition for 64-bit Windows 10 and 11 that records MP4 video with H.264, H.265 or AV1 codecs and AAC or FLAC audio.
