Clash Royale

Clash Royale is a real-time strategy card game from Supercell with bright colors and smooth cartoon animation. It has a great cartoon look and is easy for younger players to learn. Navigating through the app isn't difficult. Once you get past the tutorial battles at the beginning, it opens up more options for play.

This is a card-based game in which you choose different cards to fight the AI or other players. Each match lasts three minutes, with overtime in case of a draw, and the goal is to destroy more of the opponent's towers than they destroy of yours. You can upgrade your cards to make them more powerful, increasing their health and damage. Each card has an elixir cost, and during the battle, you have to wait for your elixir to fill up before you can use any of your cards. The first battles are tutorial matches against the AI. After you complete them, you can battle other players. Winning battles earns rewards such as gold and cards, which are needed to upgrade other cards in your deck.

Once you complete the tutorial, you can join a clan. Clan members chat and request and donate cards with each other. Plus, you are able to join in 2v2 battles and Clan Wars, and friendly battles between clan members help you hone your skills. Winning battles also earns trophies, and once you collect enough trophies, you unlock new arenas, cards and, later, the leagues.

There is a tab for adding your friends and friends you make in-game. Supercell ID saves your progress and lets you play the same account on several devices.

There is a shop with in-app purchases, where you can speed up your progression by making purchases. There is a Pass Royale, which gives you more rewards compared to the free reward track. The free rewards are modest compared to what you get for paying. This could be discouraging to some or make people feel like they have to pay in order to progress quickly.

The menu gives access to the battle log, leaderboards, training camp, tournaments, settings, and TV Royale. This is where you can go to check your progress, join tournaments, change settings, and so on.

On Windows, Clash Royale runs through Google Play Games for PC, where it became available globally in October 2023 with mouse controls and progress sync via Supercell ID.
