Eye-Fi Center

Eye-Fi Center is the desktop companion software for Eye-Fi wireless SD memory cards, made by Eye-Fi, Inc. of Mountain View, California. An Eye-Fi card sits in a digital camera like a normal SD card but has built-in Wi-Fi, and Eye-Fi Center is used to set the card up and to receive the photos and videos it sends to a Windows PC or a Mac.

Features:

Card Setup: Eye-Fi Center activates a new card and lets you choose the Wi-Fi networks the card should use. After you enter the network name and password, the card tries to connect to the network and verifies the settings.

Eye-Fi Center helps users easily manage and transfer photos from their camera to their computer.

Wireless Transfer: When the camera is switched on within range of a known network, the card sends new photos and videos to the computer running Eye-Fi Center, which saves them to a folder of your choice.

Folder Settings: Separate destination folders can be set for photos and for RAW files in the card settings, so the pictures from each camera end up where you want them.

Online Sharing: The software can upload pictures to photo sharing and social network sites such as Flickr and Facebook, and items can later be republished to another service.

Geotagging: Cards with geotagging support, such as the Explore X2, can add location data to photos, and the feature can be switched on or off in Eye-Fi Center.

Hotspot Access: Explore models could use Wayport hotspots and free open networks to upload photos when the photographer was away from home.

RAW and Direct Mode: The Pro X2 card adds RAW file transfer and ad hoc (direct) transfers to a computer without a wireless router.

Firmware Updates: When new firmware for the card is available, Eye-Fi Center prompts you to install the update.

Firewall Helper: The included Eye-Fi Helper checks the Windows firewall settings and tests incoming and outgoing connections, so that the card and the software can communicate.

Status: Eye-Fi ceased business in 2016. Support for X2 and older cards ended on September 16, 2016, and the Eye-Fi Cloud service, later renamed Keenai, was shut down in 2018. Eye-Fi Center is no longer developed or supported.

Overall, Eye-Fi Center is a legacy utility that is useful only to owners of Eye-Fi cards and compatible SanDisk or Visioneer branded cards. At the end of support Eye-Fi released the separate Eye-Fi X2 Utility for basic desktop transfers, and Eye-Fi Center has to be uninstalled before that utility is installed.
