Gemini Groove for Windows is an adaptable MP3-compatible DJ software for the experienced and capable user. Gemini Groove delivers all things beginner DJs require for mixing all genres of music, from classical to hip hop.
While super functional, the Gemini Groove interface is lacking any level of sleekness and doesn't seem like it has been updated since Gemini's previous mixing software (see CD DJ). Despite that, Gemini Groove does come with two decks that flank a basic mixing console. Between the two decks, you get three cues, two different pitches, loops and effects console, and a progress bar indicating the status of the song. The mixing console has a three-reach equalizer, controls for the master volume, single-volume controls, and a steller cross-fader.
Gemini Groove for Windows also comes with a great automix capacity that grants the user the ability to implement the perfect level of fade. In addition, through the options menu, users can manage the length and type of fades they want to use.
Gemini Groove's top portion of their interface features a small screen that plays visual images of the songs that are playing while in use, which allows users to create small Beats Per Minute (BPM) adjustments to the mix. Beneath the visual images, users will find their track library. Other features include a really great crossfade ability and support for MIDI controllers.
While Gemini Groove isn't on the same level as professional mixing software, it isn't too far off. However, Gemini Groove does have a few things that are noticeably missing, like there are not many options for effects or virtual studio technology (VST) plugins, it doesn't offer auto BPM, there is no skinning, you can't modify the pitch range from the two decks. But it is a dependable app for beginner DJs (or anyone) looking to mix.
