Antivirus check: VirusTotal report
Kaspersky Virus Removal Tool is a free on-demand scanner that finds and removes malware from Windows computers. It functions to scan for and locate infected files and data on one's device, including objects hidden in system memory, startup items and boot sectors. It helps find malware and other malicious components of one's device in order to ensure that you do not have lingering threats on your drive. It does not run in the background and does not provide real-time protection, so it is meant as a second-opinion scanner rather than a replacement for a permanent antivirus. It is free and portable: it needs no installation and can be started from a USB drive, which makes it useful for cleaning computers that are already infected.
Kaspersky Virus Removal Tool searches for threats, including viruses, trojans, rootkits, adware and riskware, in order to remove them entirely. Detected objects can be disinfected or deleted, and copies are kept in the Quarantine section, so a file removed by mistake can be restored. Potentially unwanted programs such as adware and riskware are listed as well, and the user decides whether to remove them. The scan area can be set in the parameters: system memory, startup objects, boot sectors and selected disks or folders. The Report section shows the date, action and name of every processed object after a scan.
The tool works alongside an antivirus that is already installed, so there is no need to uninstall other security software before a scan. It is built to deal with active infections that block or disable regular antivirus programs. The virus databases are included in the downloaded file and are not updated afterwards; the program warns when its version is obsolete, and a fresh copy should be downloaded from the Kaspersky website before each use. The Tools menu also contains a System Analyzer utility, and a reboot may be required after disinfection, so open documents should be saved before a scan.
Cleans an already infected PC without installation and works alongside the antivirus that is already installed.
