uTox

uTox is a completely free instant messenger program that prides itself on being able to free users from proprietary software. What it lacks in features it more than makes up for with simplicity and usability, making for a well-rounded messenger that does exactly what it sets out to do.

Typical of most messengers, uTox's contacts and user information are shown on the left side of the page, while chats are displayed to the right of that, listed top-down. You can give yourself a screen name of your choosing (duplicates don't matter because you're still tied to your Tox ID), and you can even upload your own unique avatar.
