ZoneAlarm Free Antivirus is one of the few free antivirus suites that offers a lot for what you get. While most others can only provide a free scan before they want your credit card info, ZoneAlarm has a wealth of protection that makes for more than adequate protection across all facets of your computing needs.

For its main function, ZoneAlarm really does have a strong antivirus and antimalware system that quickly scans and sweeps malware from your computer with ease. Definitions are updated regularly and can be updated on the user end quickly and easily. The program is very simple and intuitive to use, and from what I could see, I didn’t bog down my machine and make other tasks unbearable. Scans are also customizable, in case you don’t always feel like scanning every single thing or want to customize when ZoneAlarm does regular scans.

But that’s far from all. ZoneAlarm has a built-in firewall system that works well at keeping your PC invisible from outsiders to defend against outside cyberattacks proactively. It also detects when wireless networks are used, and will automatically apply increased firewall protection to keep you secure, even when you’re on a less than secure network.

In addition, ZoneAlarm offers identity theft protection by way of daily credit monitoring. They even have credit education specialists available to help in case of suspected fraud (available in the US only). ZoneAlarm also offers a gamer mode, in which you can suspend scans, updates, and alerts while gaming, so as not to be bothered while you’re enjoying a good computer game.

ZoneAlarm also does offer a paid version, with many premium features, but for what you get, the free version is more than adequate. It’s a strong antivirus/antimalware system that includes a built-in firewall, and when you consider that you’re not paying a dime for it, that makes it worth the install.
