Flycast

Flycast is an open-source Dreamcast emulator that enables you to play the vast majority of the console's library, which is considered by many to be among the best in history. SEGA discontinued the Dreamcast in 2001, only a few years after its launch, and this emulator lets its games run on a modern PC once again.

Most Dreamcast games, including titles built on Windows CE, run in it, along with a large part of the NAOMI, NAOMI 2 and Atomiswave arcade libraries. Additionally, it supports the following input options: Twin Sticks, the ASCII Mission Stick, Keyboard, Mouse, Light-Gun (using your mouse), and Standard Dreamcast Controller Emulation.

The Flycast emulator, which covers the SEGA Dreamcast, Naomi, Naomi 2 and Atomiswave boards, started as a fork of Reicast, an earlier Dreamcast emulator. Updates to this fork are released regularly and enhance the emulator's functionality and reliability while also making it more compatible with the vast SEGA portfolio; recent versions added RetroAchievements support, force feedback for arcade racing games and online play.

Flycast runs on Windows, Linux, macOS, Android, iOS, Nintendo Switch and Xbox One/Series consoles. It is free software released under the GPL-2.0 licence and developed on GitHub by flyinghead with community contributors. A community wiki contains instructions and details on many features.

Because it supports all of the main operating systems, Flycast lets you use the same emulator on a desktop, a laptop or a phone. With the touch of a virtual button, you can launch your favourite Dreamcast games on any device, whether you're using Linux or a smartphone.

A large portion of SEGA Dreamcast and Naomi products, including some of the best representations of some of the most well-known sagas in video game history, are included in Flycast's extensive compatibility list. You can open CHD, CDI, GDI, and CUE file types as well as compressed ZIP, 7Z, and DAT files with ease. Arcade games need the matching ROM sets, and a few titles still show graphical or sound glitches.

Flycast includes a built-in BIOS replacement, so many Dreamcast games start without the original BIOS files, while NAOMI and Atomiswave games require the arcade BIOS. As is customary, making your own backups from a console or board you own is the proper way to get these files. Once you have them, put the BIOS files in the emulator's data folder, add your game folders under Settings, and start playing any ROM on your hard drive.
