Free Visio Viewer

Free Visio Viewer is a small free program from Media Freeware that opens Microsoft Visio drawings on computers where Visio itself is not installed.

The viewer is meant for people who receive Visio diagrams, such as flowcharts, organization charts and process maps, but do not have a Visio license. It shows the drawing in its own window with a simple layout: a dark title band with the program name, a blue toolbar with buttons for opening, printing and zooming, and the drawing area below it.

Unlike the Microsoft Visio Viewer, which displays drawings inside Internet Explorer, this program is a standalone desktop application. You open a VSD file with the folder button on the toolbar, and the drawing appears in the main window with the file name in the title bar.

Viewing Visio drawings is simple. You can zoom in and out with the toolbar buttons, fit the whole drawing to the window, and move between the pages of a multi-page document with the page tabs and arrows at the bottom of the window.

The program can also print the open drawing, which is handy when a diagram has to be checked on paper or discussed in a meeting. The print button sits right next to the open button.

With Free Visio Viewer, you can open, view or print drawings, even if you don't have Visio installed. You can not, however, edit, save or create a new Visio drawing with it. For that, you need a full version of Visio installed.

Panes, rulers and stencils of the full Visio editor are not part of the viewer, so shapes cannot be moved, resized or restyled. To change a diagram or to paste it into a Microsoft Word document, you need Visio itself.

The program is freeware, so it costs nothing to download and use, and it is a simple way to check a Visio file that someone has sent you.
