IMG Extractor

IMG Extractor is a free plugin for the Maxthon web browser, written by Levent Dal. It extracts the images from the web page open in the current tab and displays them together in a new page, so you do not have to scroll through the original layout, text and advertising to find the pictures you need, even on long pages. The plugin is tiny, only about 2 KB, and is distributed as a Maxthon plugin package (.m2p) that is imported into the browser. Maxthon, originally known as MyIE2, was a popular tabbed browser that ran on top of the Internet Explorer engine and could be extended with small plugins such as this one.

IMG Extractor lets you see all pictures of a web page in one place, including the images inside frames and iframes.

Features

• Extracts all images of the current web page and shows them in a new page.
• Works with frames and iframes: the images of each frame are displayed in a separate page.
• Collects pictures placed on the page with IMG tags.
• Lets you view the pictures of a page side by side, away from the rest of its content.
• Makes it easier to find and save a picture with the browser's standard commands.
• Adds the function directly to the Maxthon interface as a plugin, with no separate program to run.
• Very small package of about 2 KB.
• Freeware, with no registration or payment.
• Requires Maxthon 1.0.0178 or later.
• Runs on Windows, the platform of the classic Maxthon browser.

IMG Extractor works only with images that are inserted into the page with IMG tags. If a page has no IMG tags, for example when all its graphics are set as CSS backgrounds or drawn by scripts, the plugin has nothing to show. Pictures inside frames and iframes are handled separately, one results page per frame, which keeps images from different parts of a framed site apart. Because the results open in a new page, the original page stays unchanged in its own tab, and you can return to it at any time.

The latest version, 2.1, was released in September 2007, and the plugin is no longer developed. It was made for the classic Maxthon 1.x and 2.x browsers, which were built on the Internet Explorer engine and used their own plugin format. Later Maxthon generations switched to a different extension system, so IMG Extractor is mainly of interest to people who still use a classic Maxthon installation. Users of modern browsers can get a similar list of page images from the browser's developer tools or from current image downloader extensions.

In short, IMG Extractor is a simple, free Maxthon add-on for one task: gathering the images of a web page in one place so that they are easy to view and save. It needs no registration, and on Softpedia, where it has been listed since 2007, it has been downloaded more than twenty thousand times.
