MakeHuman

MakeHuman is a completely free program that allows users to create 3D models. The software is very advanced allowing you to customize the models from the skin down to the teeth in their mouth.

The software as a very deep and rich library of hair and skin options along with clothes for users to fully customize and build the model they desire. Features that are included like ethnic mixers and highly advanced teeth modeling allows you to make sure your model is close enough and true to a human form. There are external features as well like scripts like make face or a clothes maker script to add even more of a selection to an already rich library of customization options. MakeHuman also has an online repository where even more user community contributed skins and models are located. The simple and consistent look to the UI you can model characters in a few minutes.

In "advanced" mode you can control and manipulate even finer details of a character including adding asymmetrical identities to the model. You also have Blender which is an extension of the MakeHuman program that will help you ray trace and do even more. MeshLab also is in collaboration with the MakeHuman project as it's a tool that allows you clean and edits along with converting meshes.
