Mkvmerge

Mkvmerge is a multifunctional program for creating and editing MKV (Matroska) files. It is open source and completely free of charge, and it can be used from the command line or through the MKVToolNix GUI, which is translated into many languages.

The main functions of the application allow you to assemble different video and audio tracks into one mkv-container and add subtitles to them. It is also possible to merge or split video and audio files into parts according to a specified size or time period. In addition, you can set the display aspect ratio of the picture, the default duration (frame rate) of a track and the order of output audio tracks and subtitles, as well as track names, languages, flags, tags and chapters. Mkvmerge works with source files of many formats, such as AVI, MP4, MPEG transport streams, Ogg, WAV, AAC and AC-3, and copies their streams into the mkv format without re-encoding, so there is no loss of quality.

In addition, the Mkvmerge application can be useful in case of desynchronization of sound and picture. The tools available in the program will allow you to quickly eliminate the problem with delayed or advanced sound by shifting or stretching the timestamps of a track and to resave the corrected mkv file. Additionally, the program can leave unwanted tracks, attachments or chapters out of the output file, while extracting tracks from mkv containers is done by the companion tool mkvextract.

Mkvmerge enables easy editing of MKV files, with functionality for merging, splitting, and adjusting video and audio tracks, making multimedia management simpler.
