ScreenBright

ScreenBright is a small freeware utility for Windows that changes the brightness, contrast and color settings of a monitor directly from the desktop. Instead of dimming the picture with a software overlay, it sends the new values to the display over the DDC/CI protocol, the same way the buttons and the on-screen menu of the monitor do. The monitor itself stores the settings, so the program does not need to keep running or start with Windows. This is handy for monitors whose physical buttons are awkward to reach or whose on-screen menu is hard to navigate. The program was written by Berthold Jaksch and is distributed as a portable executable of a few hundred kilobytes. Its last version is 0.2.5; the developer's website is no longer online and the program is no longer developed, but it still runs on current versions of Windows.

ScreenBright lets you change monitor brightness and contrast from Windows without using the monitor buttons or its on-screen menu.

Features:

• Brightness and contrast – Adjust the brightness and contrast of the monitor with simple sliders.

• Color settings – Change the color luminance, the warm/cold ratio and the green/magenta balance.

• Hardware control – New values are written to the monitor over DDC/CI instead of being simulated in software.

• Settings stay in the monitor – The monitor keeps the values, so the program does not have to run in the background.

• Multiple monitors – Each connected monitor is selected on its own tab.

• USB monitors – Works with DisplayLink USB monitors that support DDC/CI.

• Command line – The program can be used from the command line as well as through its window.

• Portable – A single small executable that runs without installation.

• Freeware – Free to use with no restrictions.

ScreenBright is a simple way to make the screen darker in a dim room or brighter in daylight without reaching for the monitor buttons. The monitor must support DDC/CI, an option that is usually switched on in its on-screen menu; built-in notebook displays and monitors without DDC/CI may not respond to the program. Some users report that on systems with several monitors only one display can be adjusted.
