Small in size but packing a punch, VisiPics is a terrific Windows application – available for free – which allows the user to perform a search on their operating system for duplicate images.
The software offers a trio of filters when performing a search: Loose, Basic, and Strict. Thanks to these variations, its possible to search for pictures ranging from exactly identical all the way through to those that simply share similar characteristics.
Naturally, the most obvious advantage of this software is being able to quickly free up precious hard drive space by deleting files the user determines surplus to requirements. Additional search functions include allowing certain folders to be omitted from a scan, and auto-select tool that flags up low-resolution copies, and a mid-search deletion option, rather than waiting for the process to end before taking action.
The interface is both enchanting and straight-forward, whilst the Help section of the application clearly and effectively takes a new user through the process of a search. This is always advisable for a first-time VisiPics user, just to ensure you don't accidentally lose something you wanted to keep. In fact, backing up selection files and performing a test run on them is a safe option when first using the application.
But after the first use, this nifty little gem will provide a regular source of pleasure for those who like to keep things running smoothly – or those simply wanting to tidy up their old photo collection.
