X-Mouse Button Control

Made by Phillip Gibbons from the United Kingdom, this X-Mouse Button Control program for Windows allows users to assign more complex behaviors to the buttons and scroll wheel of a computer mouse. Its applications vary from gaming, working, browsing, and just about anything you do on your computer. The tool is free, contains no bundled software, and is developed as a hobby project. 

X-Mouse Button Control can be used in many situations that are diverse for numerous everyday tasks, for example, changing the behavior of the mouse when hovering over a window, such as making the wheel change the volume over the system tray. Profiles are created for individual applications or windows and are activated automatically as the mouse moves over them. Each profile can hold up to 10 layers of button settings, which you can switch between using hot keys or mouse buttons. In games that do not natively support the 4th and 5th mouse buttons, you can map keys to these buttons. You can perform certain tasks that you could not replicate with just the mouse plugged in.

There are several editors in the program to enhance your use of this tool, such as the simulated keystroke editor and the button chording settings. It officially supports Windows 10 and 11 and Windows Server 2012 R2 to 2022, and should also work on older versions from Windows XP onwards, in 32-bit and 64-bit editions. It relies on the standard Windows mouse driver and supports up to five mouse buttons plus the scroll and tilt wheel. The interface can be translated with language packs, and a portable version is also available.
