Cisco Packet Tracer is a network simulation platform that allows students to practice network design and maintenance without the potential of breaking a real network. The drag-and-drop building suite allows for quick and easy assembly of practice networks, while the ability to interface with real devices and networks slowly builds student's skill sets. Packet Tracer allows for building simulated networks of any size, giving students practical experience with network maintenance and troubleshooting before transitioning to the workforce.

Allows students practical experience with networking, the ability to try new things and experiment without possibly breaking a real network.
Features:

  • Drag-and-Drop Network Building
  • Customized Learning Scenarios
  • Real-time tasks that allow students to see processes that are normally hidden
  • Allows students to work together across simulated networks
  • Interfacing with real equipment

This software is for Windows

PROS
Offers realistic network simulation for effective learning and troubleshooting.
Free for students enrolled in Cisco Networking Academy.
Supports a wide variety of networking protocols and devices.

CONS
Lacks the full functionality of actual CISCO equipment.
Limited to CISCO devices, hindering network diversity.
Interface can be challenging for beginners.

Cisco Packet Tracer is a powerful network simulation program that allows users to experiment with network behavior and ask “what if” questions. The program enables students and instructors to design, build, configure, and troubleshoot small to medium-sized networks using virtual networking devices. It can be used to simulate network topologies, design network prototypes, and troubleshoot existing networks. Packet Tracer is available for Windows, Mac, and Linux operating systems.

I've been using Cisco Packet Tracer for a while now and I found it to be a great tool for simulating network topologies. It's easy to use and the user interface is intuitive. It has a great library of Cisco devices and the drag and drop feature makes it easy to build complex network topologies. The simulation works well and allows for quick testing of different scenarios. You can also find useful tutorials on the website. The simulation also allows for easy troubleshooting. I also like the option to save the topology and use it later. The software is free and available for multiple platforms.
