FrostWire is a free, open-source BitTorrent client with a built-in search for files across several torrent search engines.
Features:
- It combines a torrent downloader with a library of your downloaded files. You can create a torrent from your own files or folders and share it with the world if you want. Large files are no problem, and large folders as well. This makes it useful for teams and businesses that need to share big files.
- You can preview media files while they are still downloading.
- You can single out files from torrent transfers and download only them, even whole ranges with a shift-click. The app keeps this simple even if you have never worked with torrents before.
- You can browse free, legal music and video downloads curated by FrostClick and search SoundCloud and several torrent sites.
- FrostWire has been around for quite some time: it was first released in 2004 as a fork of LimeWire and became a pure BitTorrent client with version 5.0 in 2011. During those years many features have been improved. FrostWire 7 moved to the new jlibtorrent 2.0 engine with BitTorrent v2 support, faster search and lower memory use. The built-in media player was removed in version 7, so audio and video now open in the default player of the system. The Windows installer includes its own Java runtime, so Java does not need to be installed separately. VPN-Drop Protection helps keep torrent traffic from running when the VPN connection is lost. The project is funded by donations, and version 7 has no third-party ads and no bundled installer offers. The source code is published on GitHub under the GPL. Versions are also available for Mac, Linux and Android.
FrostWire makes finding, downloading and sharing files over BitTorrent easier from one window.
