Each type of piece has specific moves; the pawns can only move forward and can choose to move 1 or 2 squares forward in their first move, provided both squares are free. After that, they can move vertically by one square onto an empty square or diagonally to capture an opponent's piece. Rooks can move and capture horizontally or vertically over any distance. Knights can move and capture by moving 2 squares horizontally and then 1 vertically or vice versa, and they can jump over other pieces. Bishops can move and capture diagonally over any distance. The queen can move and capture horizontally, vertically or diagonally over any distance. The king can move and capture one square in any direction.
Play chess in real-time with opponents worldwide enhancing strategic thinking and planning skills.
If one of your pawns manages to reach the farthest side of your opponent's board, it will be "promoted" and turned into a queen, rook, bishop, or knight of your choice. Thus, the gaming experience is as dynamic as it is strategic, calling for both quick thinking and long-term planning.
