You should download the "Office Compatibility Pack for Windows" only if you already have a full version of Microsoft Office. Because it only makes sense if a full version of Microsoft Office is already available. The package does not replace them, but only serves to make the new file formats readable on older versions of Office, as well as to be able to edit and save them.
