PostgreSQL is a free, open-source object-relational database management system that has been developed as open source since 1996 and in its long "life" has gained great popularity among users. It follows the SQL standard closely and works with a variety of data types, including JSON, arrays and user-defined types. PostgreSQL also supports very large databases. Drivers and interfaces exist for C++, Perl, Python, Ruby, .NET, Java and many others. The Windows installer by EDB includes the server, the pgAdmin management tool, command-line tools and Stack Builder for downloading extra drivers and add-ons. Among its other features, it is worth mentioning ACID transactions, built-in full-text search, the possibility of expansion with additional modules such as PostGIS, as well as a powerful replication mechanism. The system is distributed completely free of charge under the PostgreSQL License.
