Stereo Mix Plus

Stereo Mix Plus uses its own sound card driver to wrap your real sound card, which brings back and enhances the stereo mix feature of your sound card.  This will allow you to record "What you hear" sounds.  It will also redirect all sounds to your real sound card automatically.  The program was made for a well-known problem of people upgrading from Windows XP to Vista, Windows 7, 8 or 10: many sound card drivers disable the Stereo Mix device on these systems.  They were having the problem with the stereo mix being shown as unavailable in sound recording.

Stereo Mix Plus for Windows fixes this problem.  Because it adds a virtual audio card, it works regardless of the brand of your real sound card.  The program window, titled Virtual Audio Streaming, lets you choose the real microphone and sound card, set buffers and sample rate, and record or stream the audio.

It lets you record everything you hear on the PC even when the sound card driver has no Stereo Mix option.

With this virtual audio card, recording "what you hear" on Vista and later systems works the same way as it did on Windows XP, where Stereo Mix was usually available.  You will still be able to hear real sounds because Stereo Mix Plus for Windows automatically redirects all sounds to your real sound card.  The download is free, but the unregistered version adds noise to recordings until a licence is bought - the program shows a "Buy Now! to remove the noise" button.  The official site lists version 4 for Windows 2000, XP, Vista, 7, 8 and 10, 32-bit and 64-bit.
