Butterfly on Desktop is a small free desktop toy for Windows that releases animated butterflies onto your screen. Orange butterflies with realistically drawn wings flutter around the desktop, over icons and open windows, while you keep working as usual. The program does not change your wallpaper and is not a screensaver; it simply runs in the background and draws the insects on top of the screen, in the same spirit as other desktop toys that put flies or bugs on the desktop.

The program is made by Drive Software Company and distributed through the Free Desktop Soft website, which promises only freeware without viruses, malware or toolbars. The download is only about 2.8 MB. Version 1.0 is the only release and it has not been updated since 2013, but it still installs and runs on current versions of Windows.
