Citrix Receiver

Citrix Receiver for Windows is a software developed by Citrix Systems Inc., a multinational corporation founded in 1989, which provides technologies for desktop and server virtualization, networking, and cloud computing, including the XenApp and XenDesktop products that deliver Windows applications and desktops from central servers.

Citrix Receiver is an application for corporate use that goes beyond simple remote control; with this software, users open Windows applications and desktops that run on the company's servers, while they look and behave like local programs.

Thanks to Citrix Receiver, published applications can be started from the Start menu, the desktop, the Receiver window or a web browser. Each application opens in its own window, and a full virtual desktop can be shown in a window or in full screen. The HDX technology keeps graphics, audio and video smooth, and HDX 3D Pro supports demanding engineering applications.

With Citrix Receiver, it will be possible to read Outlook e-mails, update the calendar, modify an appointment or open documents in an application such as Word, Excel and browse sites with Firefox, as long as the IT department publishes these applications.

After installing and opening the application for the first time, you will be asked to enter your work email or the server address provided by your IT department. After this simple configuration, you only have to enter the company credentials and log in. Once inside, you have access to your desktop and/or virtual applications, just like in the office.

Access is possible from the office network and, through Citrix Gateway, from home or while travelling, so you can connect in any situation and from anywhere.

The client is free, but to function, it requires XenApp, XenDesktop or StoreFront servers run by your organization. Version 4.12, released in June 2018, is the last Receiver for Windows: Citrix replaced it with Citrix Workspace app, and Receiver is no longer supported.
