San Andreas Mod Installer

San Andreas Mod Installer (SAMI) for (GTA) Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas makes installing mods easy. It's a simple tool that allows you to install multiple mods and custom vehicles without editing the game files by hand, so you can keep improving your gaming experience even once you have finished the game.

The San Andreas Mod Installer is small, free, and simple to use. It was created by cpmusick, and version 1.1 is the release most widely distributed on GTA fan sites. Mods made for SAMI come with script files (.sami) that describe which game files to add or replace, so you can install new cars, textures and other modifications made by the community. Vehicle mods without a script can be installed too: SAMI finds the DFF and TXD files included with the vehicle, detects its handling.cfg, carcols.dat and vehicles.ide lines and lets you choose which in-game vehicle to replace.

The San Andreas Mod Installer only works with San Andreas and not other Grand Theft Auto titles; the same author released a separate GTA Mod Installer. On the plus side, the Mod Installer walks you through the entire installation process, so it's easy to do. It automatically detects the Grand Theft Auto directory and adds the modified files to the game, including files stored in the game's IMG archives. (You have to download the mods themselves separately.)  The Mod Installer makes sure that if something goes wrong the player does not lose any of the game data.

The San Andreas Mod Installer backs up the original files before a mod is installed, so any mod can be uninstalled later if backups were created. The integrated Scripter lets mod authors create and edit .sami script files, with help for each script action. SAMI needs the Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1, which cannot be installed on Windows 10, so it works best on older Windows versions. The program is no longer updated.
