HP Wireless Assistant

HP Wireless Assistant is a connection management application created by Hewlett-Packard for its notebooks running Windows. This software monitors connections to the notebook's wireless cards, allowing the user to manage WLAN, WWAN, or Bluetooth devices. The assistant displays the status of the integrated wireless devices, allowing the user to enable or disable some or all of them. 

This software is pre-installed as part of the standard HP image on notebooks shipped with Windows 7 and Vista, and it is also available for Windows XP. The software can also be downloaded from HP as a SoftPaq package. The user interface allows for easy configuration and management of wireless devices. This program offers a basic user interface that shows status indicators and buttons for individual devices. 

If the user experiences issues with this application or simply does not like its features, the program can be uninstalled from the Control Panel like any other application. Windows then manages the wireless adapters with its own network tools. HP offers the utility only for Windows XP, Vista and 7, so it is intended for older HP notebooks. Version 4.0.10.0 fixes an issue where pressing the Spacebar or Enter key caused the application to close prematurely.

This application was designed to help users manage wireless and Bluetooth connections of HP notebooks from one window. It reports the power state and the Windows Device Manager status of each integrated wireless device, alerts the user when that status changes, and offers Turn All On and Turn All Off buttons next to the individual controls, while the Properties and Help buttons open further options and help. The program works only with HP notebooks and their integrated wireless devices, and users who prefer the built-in Windows tools can simply remove it.
